Texas Utility was originally created in 1945 as a publicly owned holding company. Following acquisitions of The Energy Group in 1998 in the United Kingdom and a power generator in Australia, Texas Utilities became TXU. TXU was then bought by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, Texas Pacific Group and Goldman Sachs to form Energy Future Holdings Corp, a Dallas-based, privately held energy company.
TXU Energy and community volunteers have helped create and maintain the TXU Energy Urban Tree Farm, which is the largest non-profit urban tree farm in the nation. In fact, it includes approximately 10,000 trees, which will eventually be provided to neighborhood associations, schools, non-profit organizations, various cities and government entities statewide.
TXU Energy is also the sponsor of a solar energy education program for the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project. This program , called the TXU Energy Solar Academy, helps bring local schools solar technology and energy lessons to the classroom. The program aims to educate tens of thousands of students about renewable and green energy. TexasElectricityProviders.com also offers its own tips on how to save energy at home.
