Oncor in Texas focuses on the environment

This utility is committed to helping Texas become more energy efficient. Oncor’s electric delivery and transmission service operates with the help of distributed generation, or the interconnection of electrical generating facilities located at points of delivery. To put it simply, Oncor employs electricity that comes from a variety of customer-owned sources that are then distributed around the electrical grid. Each facility has a capacity of 10 megawatts or less, and connects with voltage less than 60 kilovolts.

With distributed generation, renewable energy generation such as wind and solar is incentivized, creating less carbon-creating generation facilities throughout Texas. Specifically, the Oncor 2016 Solar Photovoltaic Program offsets initial barriers to entry and allows customers to sell back energy generated at points of delivery.

Use smart meters with Oncor

The Smart Meter Texas energy program serves the Oncor customer base by giving customers access to information from their state-of-the-art digital meters. With an investment into new technology that enhances the electrical grid, Oncor is empowering customers to think about how they use energy and rethink their consumption. Smart meters also allow the utility to monitor, in real time, issues before service disruption occurs. With the Smart Meter Texas program, Oncor customers can understand their smart meter information and find ways to save energy and money.
