Dallas-based Ambit Energy recently announced a new payment plan option based on the smart meter technology. With the rollout of smart meters across millions of Texas homes, each customer’s energy usage can be monitored every 15 minutes, as opposed to every month. Ambit Energy Texas is exploring programs that will allow customers with smart meter technology to prepay for electricity.

Ambit Energy also released a Smart Plan website for Texas that provides assistance and education about the smart-meter product. The website helps customers manage their pre-paid electricity and can send customers emails regarding how much electricity they are using and how much is left on the pre-paid plan.
